Throughout the entire history of this website, I have always hated writing this bio section because I never know exactly what to say. And this time around is no different. So I will just write about myself and my life in small sections.
Basics
My name is Tara and I’m 20 years old. I have lived in California for 11 years and I currently attend a university in the bay area, a few hours away from home. I’m majoring in Psychology and plan on graduating in Spring 2012. I was originally going to go to graduate school and get a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, but I had some sort of epiphany and changed my life plans.
Interests
I am in love with video games! I got my first console (N64) when I was 6 or 7 years old. One of my favorite games as of late is Halo 3. Halo 3 and Xbox Live pretty much defined my senior year in high school and I have absolutely NO regrets. I actually love most first-person shooters, but Halo 3 has stolen my heart. I tried getting in COD but video games are expensive and I would only play COD whenever I was at a friends house.
Favorite games include Halo 3, Super Mario 64, ANY Mario Kart game, The Sims (1 and 2), Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, Dark Cloud, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Zelda: The Wind Waker, the Hitman series.
Here are some of my other favorites:
Favorite artists include Lady Gaga, Nightwish, Frank Sinatra.
Favorite books include Bel Canto by Ann Patchett (the most beautiful book I’ve ever read! READ IT!), Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, 1984 by George Orwell (BLEW my mind), Blindness by José Saramago, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.
Favorite shows include Seinfeld, Three’s Company, Dexter, The Nanny, Golden Girls, Say Yes to the Dress.
Family
My mom lives 3 hours away from me and my dad lives on the east coast so I rarely get to see him. This is quite upsetting because as I’m growing up, I feel like my parents are more like my friends. I love this new, closer relationship I have with them both and not being able to see my dad as often as I see my mom (I see her every couple of months) is heartbreaking. Actually, the same goes for my little brother too. He’s just started high school and suddenly I feel like I can relate to him. He’s not just an annoying little boy. He’s one of my best friends and I love him now more than I’ve ever loved anyone before. It sucks that these relationships flourished right as I left home, but I think part of the reason is the fact that I did leave home. Distance/absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Although he isn’t a biological part of my family, I will include my boyfriend, Christian, in this section. We’ve known each other since we were 15/16 and are high school sweethearts. I love him more than I’ve ever loved anyone outside of my family and he is my best friend. Never have I ever felt more comfortable sharing my deepest secrets, thoughts and insecurities (especially the irrational ones) with anyone. As cliche as this sounds, I have no idea what my life would be like without him. When we met, we lived 40 minutes apart. When he went off to college (he’s a year older than me), he moved to the other side of the country and to make matters worse, his family moved to Oregon. So whenever he has a break to go home and visit, he goes to Oregon, not to California. He has to make a separate trip to California to see my family and me. This works out beautifully though, because my family has accepted him as one of us and they all get along beautifully. Click here to read the story of how we met!
Music
Music is a huge part of my life. I’ve been playing the piano since I was 8 years old (12 years ago!), flute since I was 11, the organ since I was 12, and percussion since I was 12. My main instrument is piano and I love it. In middle school, I was in the school band. In high school, I was in the marching band, pep band, and symphonic band. On top of that, I played rehearsal piano for our theater department and for their performances. I also was the accompanist for our choir for 3 years. Needless to say, piano has been a huge part of my life. Unfortunately, I’ve chosen not to make it a huge part of my career (I love psychology just as much), but hopefully, it will continue to be a part of my life when I move on into the adult world after college.
College Life
As of Fall 2011, I will be starting my third year in college. I lived in the dorms for my first year and for the first quarter of my sophomore year, but my roommate and I started to hate our experience in the dorms. We chose to cancel our housing contract and move downtown into our own one-bedroom apartment, which is currently where I reside.
This bio page is meant to explain the context of my blog. There is a lot more to say about me but there is no way I can express myself and who I am in a simple bio page. That’s what my blog is for. Happy reading!
